Shimla
The
capital of Himachal Pradesh, was once the summer capital of
British India, situated at an altitude of 2196 mtrs, the place
is noted for the red roofed chalets, castle like offices and
a tip topped bazaar amidst giant pine. Shimla is 118 kms from
Chandigarh.
Dharamsala
While
Dharamsala is synonyms with the Tibetan govt. in exile, the
actual headquarters and the residence of H.H The 14th Dalai
Lama at Mcleodganj, 4 kms from Dharamsala. Most travellers
hangout at Mcleodganj. Places of interest are Dal lake, Bhagsunag,
Namgyal monastery, Naddi view point, Norbulingka Institute,
Kangra art museum.
Kangra
The
town was once the capital of the princely state of Kangra,
part of Chand dynasty but only few traces of the golden period
survive here. Places of interest are Jawalaji, Baijnath, Chamunda
devi, Chamba valley to name a few.
Kullu & Manali

kms from Chandigarh, Kullu is called the valley of Gods. It
has good mountain scenery. Excellent for trekking and trout
fishing in Beas river. It is famous for apple orchards, old
wooden temples, folk music etc.
40 kms from Kullu at the northern end is the popular resort
of Manali. It is the last and most beautiful settlement in
the valley. when first discovered by travelers during the
1960's, Manali was a peaceful tranquil alpine scenery. Today
Manali looks like any modern resort.
Places of interest are Hadimba temple, Vashist village, Naggar
castle, Tibetan shopping center, Circuit house, Solang valley
(for paragliding), Rothang pass etc.
Lahaul Spiti
The
largest district in Himachal Pradesh is an area of high mountains
scooped into by glaciated valley housing the main route ways
and settlements. Lahaul valley runs southeast and Northwest
in the southeast Kunzum la provides access to Spiti valley.
Keylong is the centre of Lahaul. It is a stop en route to
Leh with several ancient. Spiti has more basic facilities
with main town of Kaza and Tabo.
Dalhousie
80kms from Pathankot, Dalhousie is a charming hill resort
at an altitude of 2041 mtrs and excellent for walk.
