Gardens in Kashmir but the famous among them are Nishat Gardens,
Shalimar Gardens and Cheshma-Shahi Gardens.
PAHALGAM
Pahalgam
- the valley of Shepherds, is at an altitude of 2400 mtrs
from the sea level. On the way at Awantipur. There are two
ruined Hindu temples dating from the 9th century, the largest
Awanti swarmi temple is dedicated to Vishnu and it shows an
apperance of Greek architecture. Do not forget to visit temple
at Mattan, built in the reign of king Lalitaditya in the 8th
century. On the way you see saffron feilds, flanked by steep
fir-clad hills giving way to snow capped mountains.
GULMARG
Gulmarg
lives upto it's name, which means meadow of flowers.
It is at an altitute of 2730 mtrs from the sea level. It is
a large upland meadow 56 kms southwest of Sringar. Gulmarg
is India's major Ski resort in the winter, an execellent destination
of skiing, snow boarding, skating, curling and ski bobbing
and world's highest golf course in the summer..
SONAMARG
Meadow of gold, 90 kms from Srinagar at an altitute of 2740
mtrs., is an excellent base for mountain trekking and hiking
upto Thajwas glacier.
